Shahjalal Airport to Start E-gate Facility on June

The E-gate facilities at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport have not been launched for almost 11 months after its inauguration. However, the officials have stated that this facility will be available to all the E-passport carriers in the upcoming June.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal inaugurated the E-gate at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on June 30, 2021. It was said then that the work done manually by the immigration police to this day will now be accomplished through E-gate.

However, even after almost a year of its inauguration the E-gate was not properly set up for use. And so E-passport holders could not enjoy this perk. Now finally this amenity will be available from the upcoming June.

Additional Secretary (Security and Immigration Division) of the Department of Security Services in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Abdullah Al Masud Chowdhury have stated that the E-gate at Shahjalal International Airport will be used for immigration procedures within the month of June of 2022. Their preparations in this regard are close to completion.

Abdullah Al Masud Chowdhury has informed that like many other developed countries around the world, Bangladesh will also offer E-gate facilities for the E-passport holders. Once the E-gate facility becomes available to the public, immigrants will be able to complete their immigration process within no time.

But when asked “why is it taking too long to start using the E-gate”, Abdullah Al Masud Chowdhury states, “Look, all the data from the E-passport will automatically be visible on the software of the E-gate. That is why it is taking a while longer for the company that is in charge of the task. Now the work is in its final stages. We can start using it in the upcoming month of June.

In relation to the benefits of the E-gate, Abdullah Al Masud Chowdhury mentions, “once the E-gate facility starts, travellers can complete their immigration process by themselves, no more continuous harassments, time-saving, immigration procedures will be done in a short amount of time.
