Foreign Minister Pekka Havisto said that Finland will stand by Bangladesh on the Rohingya issue.

He assured this in a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on the second day of the 18th IISS Manama Dialogue in Manama, Bahrain on Saturday, 19 November.

Finland’s foreign minister praised the government of Bangladesh for providing asylum to displaced Rohingya citizens of Myanmar and continuing humanitarian assistance.

In the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland praised the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the steps taken to fight against Covid-19 and the unprecedented development of Bangladesh through the successful implementation of the vaccination program in Bangladesh.

Emphasising the strengthening of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Finland, the foreign ministers of the two countries also reiterated their mutual support and cooperation on various multilateral and international issues in international forums.

Finland’s foreign minister praised Bangladesh’s initiative to tackle climate change. In this context, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Momen praised Finland’s various initiatives regarding Sabuj Shakti or Green Energy and urged Bangladesh to cooperate with expertise and technology in this regard.

In the meeting, both foreign ministers mentioned the food and energy crisis in the world due to the Russia-Ukraine war and the increase in commodity prices. Both foreign ministers stressed the immediate end of the Russia-Ukraine war for the welfare of the people of all affected countries.
