Work On Third Terminal

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Ali said that the work of the third terminal under construction of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport has made more progress than expected, and he hopes that the terminal will be inaugurated in October 2023.

After inspecting the construction work of the third terminal on Monday, he said in response to questions from reporters, “44.15 percent of the work has been completed. After the completion of this work, the three terminals of this airport will serve 22 million passengers annually.”

The state minister expressed hope that passengers will get “international quality service” at Shahjalal Airport if the infrastructure constraints are removed.

Regarding the complaint of passenger harassment at the airport, he said, “We are taking care that the passengers are not harassed at the airport. Baggage delivery also takes much less time than before due to increased monitoring. Additional manpower has been provided wherever required. Hope the passengers will get good use.

State Minister for Aviation Mahbub Ali inspected the construction work of the third terminal of Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport on Monday.

“When I see that everything is going well, then I will understand that our actions are worthwhile. We will ensure that international services are provided like those offered at different airports around the world.”

In response to a question about the ground handling of the third terminal, the state minister said, “We are thinking of inviting international tenders. Then those who will be considered eligible, after complying with all the rules and conditions, will get the ground handling job of this terminal.”

In response to a question about the quality of work, he said, “There has been no compromise on quality, nor will there be in the future. Only the quality products mentioned in the tender will be taken for this project, nothing else will be accepted.”

Among others, Secretary Mokammel Hossain in the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Air Vice Marshal Mofidur Rahman, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority (Babychak), Group Captain Kamrul Islam, Executive Director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport were present at the time.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the third terminal construction project of Shahjalal Airport on 28 December 2019 and unveiled the plaque. Under this project, a passenger terminal building, road, car parking, cargo complex, parking apron and other facilities are being constructed.

On the south side of the main terminal of the airport, this third terminal is being built at a cost of Tk 21 thousand 400 crore. JICA is giving a part of this money as project support.
