Sylhet-New York Direct Biman Flight to Start Soon

Another Biman Bangladesh aircraft sustained damages at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. This caused the plane to be grounded immediately until fully repaired and a proper investigation of the incident is carried out.

This time around, a Biman Bangladesh plane was hit by the ground support equipment (GSE) of US-Bangla Airlines and instantly kept grounded.

The officials at Biman Bangladesh are conducting an investigation on this matter. A spokesperson from Biman has reported that the incident had taken place at the airport at around 10 PM on Saturday, 4th of June.

At the time of the incident, A Boeing-737 aircraft of Biman was on stand by at the bay area. Then a GSE dolly trolley of US-Bangla Airlines (a vehicle for transporting luggage) collided with the Boeing-737 aircraft.

As a result of the collision, the plane has sustained quite substantial damage and had to be kept grounded. The plane was scheduled to take off for Chattogram on Sunday.

Tahera Khandaker, the general manager of PR and a spokesperson from Biman put out a statement through Prothom Alo on Monday saying that they have sent a letter to the Boeing aircraft company to make them aware of the incident and requesting their approval for the plane’s repair. They have also mentioned that US-Bangla Airlines will be bearing all the necessary expenses to repair the sustained damages.

However, this was not the first time an incident like this occurred. About 2 months prior to this, on the 10th of April, another collision had taken place between two Biman aircraft at the hanger of Shahjalal Internation Airport in Dhaka.

When a Boeing-737 was being escorted out of the hanger it collided with a Boeing-777 aircraft. That incident left both the planes sustaining damages while five officials including the chief engineer of Biman were dismissed due to dereliction of duty.
