Festival on Cox's Bazar Beach with Movies from 32 Countries

The sixth season of ‘Global Youth Film Festival Bangladesh’ is starting. It will be held in the coastal city of Cox’s Bazar from March 3 to March 5 under the initiative of the film association ‘Cinema Bangladesh’. Films by young filmmakers from 32 countries are participating in this year’s festival under the slogan ‘Let’s Cinema!’

Rokeya Prachi, the member secretary of the festival organizing committee and Hemant Sadiq, the festival producer, gave the information through a press conference organized at Cox’s Bazar Press Club.

They said that the festival will be inaugurated on March 3 by the Minister of Information and Broadcasting. Hasan Mahmud. Deputy Commissioner of Cox’s Bazar Muhammad Shaheen Imran, Chairman of Cox’s Bazar Development Authority Commodore Mohammad Nurul Absar, Chairman of Cox’s Bazar Municipality Mr Mujibur Rahman and President of Combined Cultural Alliance Mr Golam Kudduch will be present as special guests.

Eminent cultural personalities and popular stars of the country will be present in various sections of the festival. Among them are Ramendu Mazumder, Nasiruddin Yusuf, producer Morshedul Islam, Prasun Rahman, producer and director Redwan Rony, Singaporean producer Jeremy Chua, producer Abu Shahed Imon, actor Ajmeri Haque Badhan, Nasir Uddin Khan, Mostafizur Noor Imran, musician Sharmin Sultana Sumi and many others.

Festival producer Hemant Sadiq said, “The films of the main competition category will be screened in the public library auditorium of Cox’s Bazar city. The opening and closing ceremonies will also be held there. Prizes will be handed over to the winners on the final day.”

The festival has a category called ‘Invited Films’. It will show some recent pictures of the country. These are ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’, ‘Mayar Janjal’, ‘Mashari’, ‘Transit’ and ‘Damal’. These will be displayed at Cox’s Bazar’s famous Labani Point, an open beach. The show will start at 6:30 pm every day. The makers and artists of the movies will be present at the exhibition.

Bengali organizers explained about this special arrangement, ‘We are arranging the exhibition on the open beach. There will be a seating capacity of 500 spectators. They will be surrounded by sound monitors. In addition, there is a modern LED screen as screen. So even if the beach is open, the audience can enjoy the movie well.

The third venue of the festival is the main auditorium of Cox’s Bazar Development Authority, where filmmaking workshops will be held. It will be attended by well-known film personalities from home and abroad as trainers.

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun will attend the closing ceremony of the ‘Global Youth Film Festival Bangladesh’ on March 5. HE Sheila Pillai, Ambassador of Singapore to Bangladesh will be present as a special guest.

It may be noted that earlier the festival was held in Lakshmipur, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Bandarban and Natore. All its exhibitions are open to all. The schedule of festivals and exhibitions can be found on the website of Global Youth Film Festival Bangladesh.
