The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh, AK Abdul Momen had made a statement on Wednesday saying that the government of Saudi Arabia would grant 100% VISA clearance to all pilgrims from Bangladesh.
On Wednesday, 16th March 2022, a bilateral meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh, Dr AK Abdul Momen and his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan al Saud at a city hotel.
During this meeting, some very important political, social and environmental issues were discussed by the representative of both countries for the first time.
The Green initiative by Saudi Arabia as a desert country to plant 50 Billion saplings all over the Middle East, matters of Food Security, the more than generous aid provided by KSA during the COVID-19 pandemic by supplying vaccinations to Bangladesh as well as allowing the Bangladeshi expatriates to take the proper dosage was among the matters discussed during this meeting.
Also, the first-ever high-level political consultation was also held between Bangladesh and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. After which Momen stated that some influential people of Dhaka showed keen interest to be part of Saudi Arabia’s green initiative. And later he escorted the Minister of Foreign Affairs Saudi Arabia to Hazrat Shahjalal International airport at noon
After the bilateral meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Bangladesh told the reporters, “In terms of Hajj pilgrims, we have discussed the matter so that visas can be issued to lessen harassment of the Hajj pilgrims.”
In the past, it was quite a hassle for a Bangladeshi to obtain pilgrims visa. They had to jump through high hoops for it if they were not affluent and with strong connections with high officials. But now thanks to this initiative those days can be left behind. Aside from a work permit or work visa, visas to allow one to perform Hajj is the most sought after by the citizens of Bangladesh.
