FitsAir, a low-cost airline in Sri Lanka, made an announcement last Thursday, 21 March, that it will be launching Dhaka-Colombo direct flights Starting from this April.
According to airline authorities, the action marks a critical turning point in regional aviation and responds to the growing need for reasonably priced travel options between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, as reported by The newspaper FT, Sri Lanka’s business newspaper.
Ammar Kassim, FitsAir Executive Director, said, “The Bangladesh economy is one of the fastest growing in the world, and we’re excited to offer competitive prices for business travellers and visitors alike. We anticipate our non-stop service to Dhaka will stimulate bilateral trade and economic growth.”
FitsAir thinks that the new route would increase bilateral trade and that it will provide competitive costs.
Initially, the Dhaka-Colombo direct flights will operate twice a week with the possibility of increasing frequency during the summer based on government approval.
FitsAir’s well-planned flight schedule enables Dhaka residents to make quick connections to Male, Chennai, and Dubai.
The first of the Dhaka-Colombo direct flights is set to start on 16 April 2024, with fares starting at Sri Lankan Rs. 74,600.
