Advocate Md. Mahbub Ali, the State Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, said that developmental work is being conducted on the MAG Osmani International Airport in Sylhet to use it as a regional hub. Meanwhile, the work of constructing a new terminal building maintaining the international standard along with enlarging the runway is going on. Soon, direct Biman flight will be conducted between Sylhet and New York, US.
The State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, Advocate Mahbub Ali stated this in his speech as a special guest in a meeting held to discuss the matter regarding land acquisition at the conference hall of Sylhet Airport on Friday (August 12). Dr AK Abdul Momen, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has also given a speech as the chief guest at the meeting.
Md Mokammel Hossain, the Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation, and Ariful Haque Chowdhury, the Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation were also among the attendees of the meeting.
Dr AK Abdul Momen, the Foreign Minister, has claimed that the people of Bangladesh are happier compared to other countries during the global recession. While also alleging that rumours are being spread that Bangladesh will have a similar fate as Sri Lanka, he said there is no basis to this allegation in reality.
Among other attendees present at the conference, Dr Mosharraf Hossain, the Divisional Commissioner of Sylhet; Md Nisharul Arif, Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner; Md Mujibur Rahman, the Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet; Shafikur Rahman Chowdhury, District Awami League President who is a former Member of Parliament; General Secretary Advocate Nasir Uddin Khan; Mahanagar Awami League president and heroic freedom fighter Masuk Uddin Ahmad, and General Secretary Zakir Hossain were just to name some of the note-worthy ones to witness the announcement of Sylhet-New York direct Biman flight coming in near future.
