Amidst the discussion of Biman Bangladesh considering buying Airbus aircraft, US aircraft manufacturer Boeing wants their proposal to be ‘properly’ evaluated before the final decision to buy new aircraft.
Top Boeing officials visiting Dhaka claim that their aircraft cost less than any other manufacturer and the entire proposal is financially viable which will be beneficial for Bangladesh’s state-owned company Biman.
The US company wants to sell four passenger and two cargo aircraft, which Biman Bangladesh has not decided yet. However, in the recent visit, they demanded to get an assurance of assessment from the government.
The top officials of Boeing Commercial Airplane Company in India and South Asia region said these things while talking to journalists in Dhaka last Tuesday.
In the conversation with the journalists, the current and past relations of Boeing with Biman, various aspects of the company as well as the comparative discussion of the two aircraft manufacturers including the Airbus proposal, global concerns about the safety of Boeing, difficulties in getting spare parts and financing if the relations between the two countries deteriorate, various aspects came up.
Ryan Wire, Boeing’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing for India and South Asia; Ashwin Naidu, Managing Director of Marketing for Eurasia and the Indian Subcontinent; and Kanti Bhubnagiri, Boeing’s Sales Director, answered various questions from reporters.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines has been trying to add new long-range aircraft to its fleet for several years. In this regard, the two leading aircraft manufacturers are continuing to negotiate at various stages showing their interest.
It has been said from the side of the government that at the moment the proposal of the European-based aircraft manufacturer Airbus is being scrutinised.
In such a context, Boeing’s delegation visiting Dhaka came before the journalists to explain their position themselves and make claims as to why their proposal would be profitable for the airline.
According to Boeing officials, if they want to take their aircraft to Bangladesh in the current ‘delicate’ economic situation, the Export-Import Bank of the United States is interested in financing this time as well.
Now Boeing wants their proposal to be fully evaluated by the authorities of Bangladesh.
Earlier there were reports that the US Embassy in Dhaka discussed the proposal of selling Boeing aircraft to Bangladesh at various levels of the government, but it did not go far.
