The construction of the 3rd terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport did not come to a halt even during the vacation of Eid-ul-Fitr. Although many workers native to Bangladesh who are involved in the project were enjoying their vacation time in their respective hometowns, however, the workers from foreign countries still kept the work going.
The construction of the new terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is moving faster than the original target. When the foundation stone was laid for the airport on the 29th of December 2019, it was informed that it would take at least 4 years to complete this project. According to that, the inauguration would have been taking place sometime in January 2024. Nevertheless, if the current velocity of the workload remains constant, then there is a high possibility that it would finish as early as September 2023.
Currently, the construction work for the third terminal is 1.9% ahead of schedule. For this reason, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is expecting the terminal to be open for passengers to use by September 2023.
The supervising engineer (civil circle project) from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Md. Habibur Rahman has stated that the pace of work on the terminal is satisfactory. It is hopeful that by the end of August 2023 or mid of September 2023, the third terminal of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport will be inaugurated and opened to the public.
